A MSNBC nasceu a 15 de Julho de 1996, fruto de uma parceria da Microsoft com a cadeia de televisão americana NBC. É um canal por cabo de informação americano que emite 24 horas por dia. Actualmente é o quarto canal informativo mais visto, atrás da FoxNews, CNN e CNN Headline News.
O site da MSNBC está bem estruturado, repleto de informação actualizada várias vezes ao dia, e com muitos links para se obter ainda mais informação acerca de todos os assuntos. Além disso, aposta muito em vídeos e movimento dentro do próprio site, o que leva a que se queira descobrir mais.

Além de tudo isto, o site oferece links para muitos serviços, como a programação, a meteorologia, os sites dos programas que transmite, e ainda algo que raramente acontece em outros sites, que é a possibilidade de obter informações acerca de como se candidatar a um emprego na MSNBC, descrevendo pormenorizadamente quais os cargos em aberto e fornecendo links na mesma página para a obtenção de mais informações.

Um dos links do site, "Who we are", leva a uma página onde se encontram os nomes dos colaboradores da MSNBC. São 39, ao todo, mais 6 que estão assinalados como contribuintes do programa de hoje. A maior parte dos nomes fornece uma hiperligação que leva directamente ao lugar da respectiva biografia na página.

Como a maior parte dos sites, a MSNBC também fornece a possibilidade de receber uma newsletter periódica com actualizações noticiosas.

A MSNBC possui correspondentes por todo o mundo e tem filiais em ambas as costas dos Estados Unidos, assim como uma filial internacional em Londres.

Trabalho de Online - Online Journalism Awards

De todos os sites que visitei, o que me pareceu melhor em termos de conteúdo e organização foi o do New York Times.

Na generalidade, os sites de informação tendem a conter o maior número de informação possível, complementada por um sem-número de links e imagens que nos transportam para mais e mais informações e actualizações. Isso pode ter os seus aspectos positivos, mas tem certamente muitos negativos.

Os leitores procuram rapidez e precisão, informação acessível e rápida. O facto de o próprio sítio estar um tanto atravancado de links e imagens pode dificultar a procura da informação pretendida.

Ao contrário do que acontece com a maior pate dos sítios, o do New York Times é um pouco mais organizado que todos, apreesntando um título (que funciona como link para uma informação mais completa) e ainda um pequeno texto introdutório que informa apenas o essencial.

O site do CBS2 Chicago também apresentou uma característica muito específica que é rara à maior parte dos sítios: a disponibilização imediata de imagens relativas a notícias de última hora (ou pelo menos às mais recentes ou à chamada notícia do dia). Isto funciona muito como uma mais valia, já que, como se costuma dizer, uma imagem vale sempre mais do que mil palavras.

Este sítio também está bastante bem organizado, com um destaque no topo para informações como o tempo, as temperaturas e o trânsito da cidade ou fora dela. Proporciona um acesso fácil e rápido à informação, sem excesso de possibilidades.

No que diz respeito aos sítios ligados ao "Student Journalism", o meu voto vai para o Extreme Alaska, já que este utiliza um estilo bastante coloquial, com uma imagem que chama a atenção de quem o visita pela sua beleza, apresentando a informação ao lado, de forma organizada e concisa, e com links para o acesso a uma informação mais completa. O sítio do México está indisponível.
